Although it’s a bit of a challenge to find common ground between the two presidential campaigns, there is one issue that has impacted both families – multiple sclerosis. Ann Romney is living with the disease, and Michelle Obama’s father lived with it before he died. The good news is that research into this devastating disorder is ongoing. Nancy Sicotte, MD, director of the Multiple Sclerosis Program at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, recently received a three-year, $506,000 grant from the National Multiple Sclerosis Society to study brain changes in MS and underlying causes and potential treatments of MS-related depression.
