Normally, cells form a single structure, known as a mitotic spindle (depicted in green), that helps to separate the dividing cell into two new cells, as the cell on the left. When cells have multiple nuclei, due to incomplete cell division as a result of CIT mutations, the cells form multiple mitotic spindles, as in the middle and right images.
