Chen's research was depicted in illustration for the cover of this edition of Cell Research. Description: "Through properly covering and uncovering holes on a flute in a rhythm, flute players make beautiful music. N6-methyladenosine (m6A) modification sites on mRNA transcripts equal to the holes on a flute. Through adding or removing m6A modification on mRNA transcripts, cells fine tune the expression levels of genes, targets of m6A modification, in a post-transcriptional regulation manner. Similar to that bad music could be made by improperly covering or uncovering certain holes on the flute, dysregulation of m6A modification could result in cancers (e.g., leukemia)."
