Newswise — Denver, Colo. – Researchers have developed a mobile app to quickly and conveniently evaluate people for strabismus, a condition involving misalignment of the eyes. The research is being presented at the 2015 Annual Meeting of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) this week in Denver, Colo. The new app allows examiners to capture an image of the patient from any mobile device. The app then calculates a wide range of eye measurements related to strabismus.Strabismus can lead to amblyopia, a condition known as “lazy eye.” Early diagnosis of strabismus is important to reduce the risk of amblyopia, but young children are often difficult to evaluate with traditional methods. The new app, which can provide objective assessment of young children, will continue to be refined in the next year, before its official release.
