Newswise — (New York – June 10, 2013) New York magazine named 227 physicians from the hospitals of the Mount Sinai Health System to its 2014 “Best Doctors” list. It also listed 36 additional doctors who serve at hospitals within Mount Sinai’s growing affiliate network, for a total of 263 physicians across 59 medical specialties. The “Best Doctors” issue appears in the June 9 print issue and is available online at www.nymag.com/bestdoctors.

“Our integrated health care system provides exceptional, quality medical care to all New Yorkers, and that is reflected in the extraordinary results on the Best Doctors list,” said Kenneth L. Davis, MD, CEO and President, Mount Sinai Health System. “This prestigious tally proves that innovative research and clinical care has made Mount Sinai a magnet for some of the world’s best clinicians.”

The special issue lists doctors on staff at The Mount Sinai Hospital / Mount Sinai Queens (142); Mount Sinai Beth Israel (39); Mount Sinai Roosevelt (26); the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai (16); Mount Sinai St. Luke’s (3); and Mount Sinai Beth Israel Brooklyn (1). In addition, Mount Sinai physicians are featured in 59 of the 63 specialties reviewed in the magazine, including areas like medical oncology, orthopedic surgery, endocrinology and diabetes, neurological surgery and neurology, and cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology. Within medicine, 48 full-time faculty and voluntary physicians in thirteen specialties made the list.

Castle Connolly Medical Ltd., a New York City research and information firm, determines the rankings based on a regional peer-review survey that asks thousands of licensed physicians to nominate the physicians who, in their judgment, are the best in their field and related fields; the top 10 percent of the region’s physicians are then published in its annual guidebook, Top Doctors: New York Metro Area. For the past 17 years, Castle Connolly has provided New York Magazine with a shorter version of this list for publication.
