WHEN: Friday, October 16, 2015 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM Pacific Time – Live or WebEx WHAT: To further empower patients to make treatment decisions in line with their values, the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) will introduce a new infographic tool for evaluating treatment decisions [its new value initiative]—the NCCN Evidence Blocks—at a press conference at the start of the NCCN 10th Annual Congress: Hematologic Malignancies.
The new NCCN Guidelines with NCCN Evidence Blocks enable physicians and patients to speak the same language of choice and value. Robert W. Carlson, MD, Chief Executive Officer, NCCN, will demonstrate how the five key value considerations displayed in the NCCN Evidence Blocks—Efficacy, Safety, Quality and Quantity of evidence, Consistency of evidence, and Affordability—can be used to evaluate recommended interventions in cancer care.
By adding affordability to NCCN’s existing criteria of efficacy, toxicity, and evidence for evaluating treatment options, patients will be empowered to identify, alongside their physician, optimal treatment based on clinical and economic considerations that are of most value to them. Following opening remarks, a panel of physicians and patients will discuss the challenges and benefits presented by this new physician/patient dynamic in shared decision-making.
