Newswise — Chicago (October 1, 2012): The American College of Surgeons will present an informational press briefing on “Return to Play Issues in Sports-Related Neurotrauma” during its Annual Clinical Congress being held at the McComick Place Convention Center (West Building) in Chicago.

WHEN: Tuesday October 2, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. (CT).

WHY: “Return to play” issues in sports after athletes sustain concussions, stingers, or other neurotraumatic injuries remain a significantly controversial topic. Multiple issues—including if and when to allow athletes to return to play—face practitioners caring for athletes of all ages and experience levels in a variety of sporting activities. During this press briefing two nationally prominent neurosurgeons, who are experts in the area of neurotrauma in athletes, will provide an overview on various grading schema for injury, and address the long-term pathological and functional consequences of concussion in particular.
