Newswise — ALEXANDRIA, VA—The American Medical Group Association (AMGA) announces a five-part webinar series for 2012 dealing with the challenges of integrating physician organizations and hospitals. The faculty for these webinars has been chosen from AMGA members that have highly successful integration stories. Groups presenting include Advocate Health Care/Advocate Physician Partners; Billings Clinic; Mayo Clinic Health System; Mercy Clinic; and Sutter Medical Group. Leaders from these groups will provide insights and strategies to address the integration process, including shared governance/leadership; compensation strategies; cultural alignment; and care coordination and clinical integration.

Over the past several years, market forces have conspired to bring physicians and hospitals together, through employment, integration, or other affiliation arrangements. With the advent of ACOs and other value-based payment models, many hospitals are considering integration strategies to deal with the threat of decreased revenues from reduced hospitalizations, which is at the core of ACO payment methodology. These webinars will provide practical guidance for achieving successful integration for hospitals considering or already involved in an integration strategy or physician groups considering an affiliation with a hospital partner.

“AMGA has achieved notoriety in helping physician groups and hospitals to find common ground through articles in Group Practice Journal, regional educational programs, Leadership Councils, and compelling case studies at the AMGA Annual Conference,” said Donald W. Fisher, Ph.D., CAE, AMGA president and chief executive officer. “This webinar series brings together some of the most respected medical groups and health systems that are the vanguard of healthcare integration to share their stories from the front lines.”
