Newswise — MAYWOOD, Ill. (Oct. 6, 2014) – Loyola Medicine and Gilda’s Club Chicago are launching a new program to help cancer survivors make the transition from active treatment to post-treatment care.

The Cancer Transitions program is targeted to patients who have completed treatments within the past 24 months, although the program also can benefit survivors at any time in their survivorship.

Twelve million cancer survivors in the U.S. face heavy physical and psychological burdens as they transition from patients to survivors. The Cancer Support Community and Livestrong Foundation developed Cancer Transitions to address their needs. Gilda’s Club Chicago is an affiliate of the Cancer Support Community.

At six Monday sessions, beginning Oct. 20, physicians, nutritionists, fitness trainers and other experts will discuss relaxation and stress management techniques, exercise tailored to your abilities and tips for nutritious eating.

The free workshops will be presented from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Cardinal Bernardin Cancer Center, 2160 S. First Ave., Maywood. Light refreshments will be served. Here are the topics:
