Newswise — NEW YORK – April 7, 2015 - New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai (NYEE) has opened a new state-of-the-art laser vision correction facility as part of comprehensive ophthalmology services offered through the hospital. The Laser Vision Correction Center at NYEE is the only refractive surgery center within the Mount Sinai Health System.

Laser vision correction, also known as refractive surgery, treats nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism, helping to eliminate the need for eyeglasses and contact lenses for many patients. The surgery corrects vision by changing the shape of the cornea, the transparent layer that covers the outer surface of the eye.
The Laser Vision Correction Center at NYEE, located at 230 Second Avenue in lower Manhattan and adjacent to the main hospital, offers a variety of choices for laser vision correction – Photorefractive keratectomy (PRK), custom LASIK, and now IntraLASIK – the first blade-free laser technology that enables physicians to customize vision correction for each patient.
As an academic medical center affiliated with the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, the new facility combines premier clinical and research resources in laser and surgical vision correction. Surgeons practicing at the center are among the leaders in the field in both teaching refractive surgery techniques to other ophthalmologists across the nation, and participating as investigators in clinical research to continually improve the quality, efficiency and outcomes of vision correction surgery.
