Newswise — Joseph Berardo, Jr. has been named the new chair of the Ocean Medical Center Foundation Board of Trustees. Berardo, who resides in Sea Girt, NJ, is chairman of MagnaCare health care network and partner of Brighton Health Group, and has been on the Ocean Foundation Board since 2013. He played an integral role in the unprecedented success of the Foundation’s Growing Together capital campaign, which raised $10.5M in support of the newly expanded Hirair and Anna Hovnanian Emergency Care Center.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to lead such a dedicated group of individuals who are passionate about ensuring our community has access to the best possible care, right in their backyard,” says Berardo. “Ocean Medical Center continues to grow as an outstanding and reliable medical center thanks in part to the ongoing support from this community.”

In Joe Berardo’s new leadership role, he is excited to also welcome Robert Harms as vice chair and Peter Mencel, M.D. and Matthew Regan to the board of trustees. Harms resides in Wall, NJ, is CEO of George Harms Construction and has been on the Foundation Board since 2013. Harms has also been the dedicated chair of the Foundation’s Golf Classic event for three years.

Peter Mencel, M.D., a resident of Spring Lake, NJ, is a medical oncologist at Atlantic Hematology Oncology Associates, part of Meridian Medical Group. He has been associated with Meridian Health for many years, serving as medical director of the cancer center at Jersey Shore University Medical Center and director of continuing medical education for Jersey Shore University Medical Center. Together with his wife, Dana, Dr. Mencel also chaired the Sweetheart Ball, a major fundraising event benefitting cancer services at Meridian Health, for ten years.

Matthew Regan, who resides in Brielle, NJ, is the co-founder and managing partner of Granard Pharmaceutical Sales & Marketing. He joins the board after supporting the Foundation in memory of his parents, Richie and Sheila Regan.

“We are honored that these four community leaders have accepted more active roles within the Ocean Medical Center Foundation Board,” says Dean Lin, president of Ocean Medical Center. “As Ocean Medical Center embarks on several new facility improvements, such as a new comprehensive cancer center that will open later this year, patient room renovations, and the addition of a high end medical/surgical unit with 36 private rooms, it is tremendous to have Joseph, Robert, Dr. Mencel and Matthew engaged and inspiring others through their continued commitment to Ocean Medical Center.”

Recent updates to the Ocean Medical Center Foundation board also include the formation of a Cultivation Committee, whose mission is to encourage and develop long term, sustaining interest and support for Ocean Medical Center from the surrounding communities. The Committee will focus its efforts on engaging both full and part time residents in a dialog to promote Ocean Medical Center as a best-in-class health care provider through educational social gatherings that will occur throughout the year.
