Newswise — ITHACA, N.Y. – From artificial intelligence and robotics to battling infection from surgery, design influences and enhances our lives now more than ever. Cornell University President David Skorton and top technology industry leaders will take part in a conference, “Designing the Future: Cornell and the Technology of Today and Tomorrow,” on March 14, 2012 at the Computer History Museum, 1401 N. Shoreline Blvd., Mountain View, Calif. The event is hosted by Cornell University.The talks include:

• "Curious and Creative Machines: Design in the Age of Robotics and Artificial Intelligence," by Hod Lipson, Cornell associate professor of engineering;

• “Nature-Inspired Design of Biomaterials for Human Body Repair," by C. C. Chu, Cornell professor of human ecology;

• "Making Ideas Happen," a lecture by Cornell alumnus Scott Belsky, founder and CEO of Behance, a company that develops products and services for creative industries.

Panels include: “Product and Gadget Design,” which examines sustainable consumer products and services; “Experiential and Media Design,” looks at the future of design and human computer interaction; and the “Built Environment and Infrastructure Design,” which considers infrastructure and connected cities.
