Kerri Strug

Kerri is a two-time Olympian and gold medalist. She was the youngest Olympian at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, Spain at age 14. After four more years of hard work and training, she captured America's spirit at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta. As the team competition neared its end, Kerri was up last on vault. After shocking spectators by falling and injuring her ankle on her first vault, she managed to stick the landing on her second vault before collapsing in pain, helping to secure gold for the American team. It was a moment that landed Kerri on the front page of newspapers around the world and catapulted her into the spotlight. She was only eighteen years old.

According to a new nationwide survey* sponsored by HERSHEY’S BLISS Chocolates, moms shared what they really want for Mother’s Day this year and it’s the little things that matter most. More than half of women (46%) said they’d rather have a handmade gift from the kids and/or spend quality time together as a family outdoors to help improve their overall well-being.

Olympic gymnast and new mom Kerri Strug can attest, as her most blissful moments in life are spent with 1-year-old son enjoying fun, active family play days together. It’s the small, joyful moments like these that matter most to the new mom and she’s teaming up with HERSHEY’S BLISS Chocolates to offer play day ideas for families on Mother’s Day – making blissful memories that mean most to mom.

Kerri Strug is available to:• Offer tips for a Blissful Mother’s Day and fun, active play day ideas the entire family will enjoy together • Discuss the importance and positive effects of play• Share ideas on how to get active as a family

In addition to sharing Blissful Mother’s Day ideas, Kerri will share how she plans to spend her extra-special day, as well as what she plans to do for her own mom!

KEY FINDINGS FROM HERSHEY’S BLISS MOTHER’S DAY SURVEY*:• More than half of women (46%) surveyed said the best gift they ever received for Mother’s Day was a handmade gift from their kids. • An outdoor activity – such as a family hike or play time in the park – is the most enjoyable family activity for Mother’s Day, according to 24% of women. • Nearly a quarter of moms (22%) said they had no preference what specific family activity they did, just as long as it will be enjoyable and the kids won’t fight. • Romance tops the list for moms looking for a “day of total bliss” involving either a romantic night out or weekend away with their significant other (21%). o Also popular? A day at the spa (20%) or a day spent outdoors or at the beach (19%). • Our survey shows that ‘no gift’ is not an option as 60% of moms said the biggest disappointment is no gift at all. o However, nearly all moms said they have never received a disappointing Mother’s Day gift, which proves it’s the thought that counts.
