The Supreme Court has once again waited until the last second to announce decisions on two of its biggest cases this session, those involving the Affordable Care Act and gay marriage.

Lee Epstein, JD, Ethan A.H. Shepley Distinguished University Professor at Washington University in St. Louis and expert on the Supreme Court, has studied this phenomenon.

She finds that more than 30 percent of the court’s decisions are issued in June and more than half of those in the last week.
