Newswise — Nadia Laniado, DDS, MPH, is the Director of Community Dentistry and Population Health, Jacobi Medical Center,in addition to being a Fellows Ambassador at the New York Academy of Medicine.As an expert in oral health disparities in vulnerable populations, Dr. Lanaido is currently calling out the 2016 presidential candidates about the unmet oral health needs of Americans.
Her specialties are also orthodontics and dental public health and she currently is on the faculty at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. She oversees a $2.5M Health Resources and Services Administration grant to improve interprofessional collaboration between dentists and physicians, increase access to care for underserved children, and enhance the skills and training of the pediatric dental residents. Previously, she was in the private practice of orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics as well as part-time faculty at St. Barnabas Hospital.
Dr. Laniado’s research interests are broad and include the relationship between diet and oral health, interprofessional education and collaboration, the effect of healthcare policy and reform on dental emergency department visits, and the oral health care surveillance system.
Dr. Laniado is an honors graduate of Cornell University and received her dental degree from Stony Brook University School of Dental Medicine. She completed a general practice residency at New York Hospital Queens and her orthodontic residency at Montefiore Medical Center. Her master’s degree in public health was awarded from the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University. She completed her dental public health residency at Jacobi Medical Center.
