Vanderbilt political science professor Marc Hetherington is putting the finishing touches on a book called Why Washington Won’t Work with Thomas J. Rudolph of the University of Illinois.Email: [email protected]

Hetherington is the author of two books about the American electorate, Why Trust Matters: Declining Political Trust and the Demise of American Liberalism (Princeton University Press, 2005) and Authoritarianism and Polarization in American Politics (Cambridge University Press, 2009).While government was once seen as a set of institutions designed to solve entrenched problems, it no longer becomes a viable option when it loses the trust of the people, Hetherington says.
