Preeminent Healthcare Provider Organizations Explore Successful Models of Accountable CareAMGA IQL Conference Highlights Current Examples of Value-based Care
Newswise — National Harbor, MD-The American Medical Group Association (AMGA) is convening more than 600 participants, representing the leaders of the nation's preeminent healthcare provider organizations, at the IQL 2012 Annual Conference, October 3 - 5 at the Gaylord National Harbor Resort & Conference Center in National Harbor, MD. This year's annual meeting of the association's Institute for Quality Leadership (IQL) explores successful models of accountable care including the Medicare Shared Savings Program, the ACO Pioneer program, and various commercial insurance models.
Under the theme “Routes to Tomorrow’s Health Care: Successful Models of Accountable Care,” the conference will show that America’s future healthcare model is already in place at a number of AMGA groups. Leaders from these innovative groups will present successful routes they have taken to transition from volume-based care to value-based, accountable care models and will provide you with tangible tools to aid your group in becoming a high-performing health system.

The conference is an educational and networking event hosted by AMGA's Institute for Quality Leadership (IQL), devoted to improving the quality of care delivered in the U.S. healthcare system through the advancement of knowledge and the education of healthcare professionals.

Routes to Tomorrow’s Health CareThe opening plenary session will frame the meeting with a discussion of the current state of accountable care, alternate routes to becoming an ACO, the evolution of value-based care, and the role of technology and data analytics in creating a truly patient-centered, high-performing health system. Featured speaker Dr. Daniel Kraft, a physician-scientist, inventor, and innovator with over 20 years of experience in clinical practice, biomedical research, and healthcare innovation, will discuss developing technologies and their potential in biomedicine and health care, as well as connected, data-driven, and integrated personalized medicine.
Another general session will demonstrate that America’s future healthcare model is already in place at a number of AMGA groups that are transitioning from volume-based care to value-based, accountable care models. A panel of providers, payers, and CMS representatives will discuss their ACO models including the benefits, challenges, and lessons learned to help other medical groups that are forming these partnerships.
The conference will close with a presentation of up-to-date information on each political party’s platform on healthcare reform from two of the top political analysts in broadcasting, Mark Shields and Tucker Carlson.

Acclaim Award PresentationAMGA also will present 2012 AMGA Acclaim Award to HealthPartners for "Triple Aim 2.0: Designing Culture to Support Better Health, Better Experience at a Lower Cost," an inventive and patient-centered approach to align the Institute of Medicine's Aims to identify and drive performance improvement, innovation, and culture throughout the organization. The award, granted through AMGA's philanthropic arm, the American Medical Group Foundation (AMGF), will be accepted by Dr. Brian Rank, medical director at HealthPartners Medical Group.
In the award-winning initiative, HealthPartners exhibited, through the alignment with the Institute of Medicine's Six Aims, that they have built a culture that supports innovation and improvement through a process of proactively identifying improvement opportunities. The organization began this journey by identifying priorities using internal and external quality benchmarks, experience outcome measures, utilization metrics, and total cost metrics. The implementation plan was devised by a team who structures innovation around the organization's design principles of reliability, customization, access, and coordination. This proactive, intentional work has led to great results in the organization. By transparently sharing health, experience, and cost metrics, HealthPartners has led innovation that has positively impacted health care for every patient in their community. HealthPartners has developed an approach and culture to improve both clinical quality and patient satisfaction in ways that engage employees in the process, making the organization a great place to work and a great place for patients to receive care.

AMGA's prestigious Acclaim Award honors organizations that embrace the Institute of Medicine's aims by incorporating the six attributes of an ideal healthcare delivery system as identified by the Commonwealth Fund Commission on a High Performance Health System. The award highlights the continued research and investigation toward finding the finest models of medical management, coordination of care delivery, and a systemic approach to improving the patient experience. The recipient of the award receives a Steuben-designed crystal, produced specifically for the award, as well as national recognition. Honorees also are recognized and receive crystal awards.
The American Medical Group Foundation is the philanthropic arm of the AMGA. As a nonprofit 501(C)(3) organization, its mission is to foster quality improvement in group practice through education and research programs in clinical quality, patient safety, service, operational efficiency, and innovation.
