Hovnanian Children’s Hospital will host its annual Superhero Soiree at the Molly Pitcher Inn in Red Bank on Friday, April 17 from 7:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m. During the event, Christie Rampone, captain of the United States National team and four time Olympic gold medalist, will present the hospital’s Junior Ambassadors with the Hometown Hero Award. The award is presented annually to honor young philanthropists and leaders in the community for outstanding service to others in Monmouth and Ocean counties.
Christie Rampone, spokesperson for K. Hovnanian Children’s Hospital, is not only a sports icon and local hero, but a role model in our community who has always made time to visit children on the pediatric floor, attend community events and work to instill the importance of exercise, safety and a healthy diet in today’s youth. Rampone’s ongoing dedication to K. Hovnanian Children’s Hospital makes her presentation of this award to the Junior Ambassadors a perfect fit.
“The Superhero Soiree presents an ideal opportunity to acknowledge our Junior Ambassadors for their hard work and dedication as we work together in support of the youngest in our growing community,” said Kenneth N. Hovnanian Children’s Hospital at Jersey Shore University Medical Center. “Christie Rampone is a true leader in our community and we’re thrilled she’s involved in presenting the Hometown Hero award to this committed group.” The Junior Ambassadors are a group of nearly 100 local teens who are actively involved in spreading awareness about the hospital’s resources through volunteer opportunities and fundraising projects. Recently, the Junior Ambassadors conducted a pajama drive for patients, delivered gifts and treats around the holidays, and brought art supplies to pediatrics through a project called Art with Heart.
Ann Marie Weiland, senior at Ranney School in Tinton Falls and one of the leaders of the Junior Ambassadors, is grateful for her experience with the program. “No matter how busy you are, you are happy that you made the effort to get to the hospital after school and you look forward to your next volunteer opportunity,” she says. “We are learning about compassion first hand, and we are giving back.”
Each year, proceeds from the Superhero Soiree fundraising event benefit K. Hovnanian Children’s Hospital, ensuring the most advanced, compassionate care from birth. This year’s event will focus on expanding the Neonatal Intensive Care (NICU) and Maternity Units. Construction will soon begin on a 13-bassinet NICU expansion, featuring nine private rooms and two twin rooms, bringing the total NICU capacity to 34 bassinets. The maternity unit will also see a nine room expansion to provide additional delivery capacity. These important expansion projects will ensure growing families in the area have access to the health care services they need, close to home.
The Superhero Soiree is generously sponsored by the Walter R. Earle Corporation. Tickets are $200 each, and sponsorship and virtual advertising opportunities are also available. Last year’s event raised $125,000 in support of the children’s hospital, and attracted more than 215 guests.
