Newswise — SYLVANIA, Ohio, May 10, 2012 – ProMedica Flower Hospital has earned Ohio’s premier award for exceeding patient safety and quality standards established by the internationally-recognized Malcolm Baldrige Criteria. It is the only organization in the state to receive a platinum-level award from The Partnership for Excellence (TPE) for performance excellence, innovation and visionary leadership in health care. TPE is Ohio, Indiana and West Virginia’s Baldrige-based awards program. “This is one of the most significant milestones in Flower’s history and a great tribute to our physicians and employees who put patient safety, quality and satisfaction first,” said Alan Sattler, president of Flower Hospital. “The TPE process is rigorous and required a substantial time commitment and resources to prove our dedication to excellent patient care and continuous clinical performance improvements.”

Flower Hospital was evaluated by seven independent examiners for three days in areas including leadership, strategic planning, customer focus, measurement, analysis and knowledge management, workforce focus, operations focus, and results. Strategic planning, values and performance metrics were noted as areas of strength during the survey process.

For more than 20 years, the Baldrige criteria have been a significant tool for assessing organizational strengths and opportunities for improvement. By providing a framework for performance excellence through the Baldrige criteria, organizations that participate in this process gain a greater focus on customer service, process management, work systems and organization-wide results. In many cases, they also improve productivity, and increase employee and customer satisfaction.

Flower Hospital has provided high quality healthcare services to the Toledo and Sylvania communities for more than 100 years. Its campus includes the Hickman Cancer Center and a Level III emergency trauma center. It is the regional leader for inpatient adult psychiatric services.

Earlier this year, the hospital was also nationally recognized by the American Stroke Association for exceptional stroke care that achieves nationally accepted standards and recommendations.
