Newswise — TOLEDO, Ohio, Feb. 18, 2016 – Toledo-based ProMedica announced today that it has established an onsite employee health clinic and fitness center at the world headquarters of Owens Corning in downtown Toledo.

As part of a three-year agreement, ProMedica will operate the program that is exclusively for Owens Corning employees, their spouses and eligible adult dependents. It offers a broad continuum of healthcare services including basic primary care, lab testing, workplace physicals and physical therapy. The full-service fitness center has a variety of exercise equipment, group exercise classes and personalized fitness coaching.

The staff includes a full-time family physician, registered nurse, dietitian, pharmacist and certified occupational health nurse who will work closely with the fitness center team to ensure that exercise and nutrition are incorporated into treatment plans. A part-time physical therapist will also be available at the fitness center three days a week.

“The new ProMedica clinic and fitness center supports our commitment to comprehensively addressing the health and wellness of our employees,” said Brian Linder, MD, corporate medical director at Owens Corning. “We’re giving our Toledo-area employees easy access to primary and preventive care and also providing them with resources to help them live healthier lives. Dr. Knieriem, our new, onsite physician, will offer quality, patient-focused care in an environment that provides the time to build rapport and trust. And he will work closely with the other health professionals to offer a full spectrum of services.”

“We are very pleased to partner with Owens Corning to help their employees improve their overall health and well-being. This program reflects ProMedica’s commitment to making health care more convenient, affordable and accessible,” said Dan Cassavar, MD, president, ProMedica Physicians. “A key benefit of our program is that if a patient needs to see a specialist, our team will be able to expedite the referral process.”

Owens Corning employees and their eligible family members that choose to enroll as patients will be encouraged to participate in an initial health assessment. The findings will be used to customize treatment programs that meet each patient’s unique needs. The medical staff will closely monitor individuals with chronic health conditions and those who fall into high-risk groups due to their family history and/or lifestyle. Health providers will work with patients to set practical health and fitness goals and will consistently track ongoing progress. “There are many unique aspects of our program, in particular the close coordination between our primary care team and specialists. We also offer the fitness component,” said Brandon Falknor, business development manager, ProMedica. “We definitely expect to see more onsite employee health clinics in the future because they often result in healthier employee populations and enhanced productivity.”
