Newswise — Chicago (Nov. 3, 2014): The Rehabilitation Nursing Foundation (RNF) presents Dr. Grace Campbell, PhD BSN RN CRRN MSW, with the RNF Fellow Research Grant Award. RNF offers $30,000 in the form of multiple grants for research projects that address the clinical practice, educational or administrative dimensions of rehabilitation nursing. Dr. Campbell received her award at the ARN 40th Annual Educational Conference, October 29 – November 1, 2014 in Anaheim, CA.

Dr. Campbell’s research study, A Pilot Study of Falls and Near Falls in Women with Ovarian Cancer Receiving Neurotoxic Chemotherapy, will describe the occurrence of falls and near falls over time in women receiving neurotoxic chemotherapy for ovarian cancer and will explore the relationships among falls/near falls, chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN), and CIPN-related impairments and activity limitation.

Dr. Campbell is a Postdoctoral Scholar at the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing. As a rehabilitation staff nurse, manager, and clinical educator, she possesses both clinical and research expertise in fall prediction and prevention in older adults, as well as in persons with neurological diagnoses such as Parkinson’s disease, stroke, brain injury, and brain tumors.

Dr. Campbell earned her PhD in Nursing, Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Master of Social Work from the University of Pittsburgh. She has been an ARN member for almost 20 years, is an active participant in the Nominating and Leadership Development Committee and serves as an editorial board member for the Rehabilitation Nursing journal.

By supporting my work with cancer survivors, this grant will be instrumental in helping me pursue my goal of enhancing the quality of life for individuals affected by disability or chronic illness, specifically related to cancer and cancer treatment,” says Dr. Campbell.

Three other researchers, Heidi Donovan, PhD RN, Susan Sereika, PhD and Elizabeth Hile, PhD PT NCS, will serve as co-investigators along with consultant Elizabeth Skidmore, PhD OTR/L.

Each year, the RNF Research Fund Committee solicits and reviews research proposals addressing clinical practice, educational, or administrative dimensions of rehabilitation nursing.
