Newswise — CHICAGO – Richard P. Cambria, MD, of Massachusetts was elected 2011-2012 President of the Society for Vascular Surgery® (SVS) on June 17, 2011 during the Vascular Annual Meeting® in Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Cambria is the Chief of the Division of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery and Co-Director of the Thoracic Aortic Center at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.
“Dr. Cambria’s leadership will be an asset for the Society for Vascular Surgery,” said Immediate Past President Robert Zwolak, MD. “He is dedicated to advancing vascular health and has served SVS in several high-level positions such as producing and managing programs for the 2007 and 2008 Vascular Annual Meeting.”
Dr. Cambria is Associate Editor of the acclaimed, Rutherford Textbook of Vascular Surgery and Co-Editor-in Chief of the, Atlas of Vascular Surgery. He is an assistant editor for the Journal of Vascular Surgery®. He is a past president of the New England Society for Vascular Surgery.
His accomplishments include: numerous research projects; lecturing at major medical institutions since 1987; recipient of Teacher of the Year by general surgery residents at Yale University School of Medicine; and recipient of Teacher of the Year by residents in general surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital.
His major research interests include: spinal cord protection in complex aortic surgery, renovascular disease, injury and repair in vascular tissues, and stent graft repair thoracic aortic disease.
Dr. Cambria attended the College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University. He completed his internship and residencies at Massachusetts General Hospital.
