Newswise — ANAHEIM, CA. (November 13, 2012) – Richard W. Weber, M.D., Denver, was installed as president of the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (ACAAI) at the ACAAI Annual Scientific Meeting in Anaheim on Nov. 13. Michael B. Foggs, M.D., Chicago, was elected ACAAI president-elect.

Other newly elected ACAAI officers are James L. Sublett, M.D., Louisville, Ky., vice president; and Bryan L. Martin, D.O., Columbus, Ohio, treasurer. Regents elected for three-year terms include: Gregory W. Bensch, M.D., Stockton, Calif.; Tao T. Le, M.D., M.H.S., Elizabethtown, Ky.; and Maeve E. O’Connor, M.D., Charlotte, N.C.

Dr. Richard Weber is professor of medicine at the University of Colorado, Denver School of Medicine, and professor of medicine at National Jewish Health in Denver.

This past year he served as ACAAI president-elect and chaired the Annual Program Committee. He is serving his second term on the Board of Regents and the Executive Committee. He is an associate editor and Editorial Board member of Annals of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology, ACAAI’s scientific journal. He has a particular interest in pollens associated with allergies and his photos of allergen-producing plants and accompanying essays are regularly featured in Annals. He has served on the ACAAI Aerobiology Committee since 1983, most years as chair, and has been program director of the Aeroallergen Identification Workshop since 1985. He is on numerous other committees including the FIT Bowl Planning Committee (since 1991) and the Abstract Review Committee. He was recognized with the ACAAI Distinguished Fellow Award, the Distinguished Service Award, and the Bela Schick Lectureship.

Dr. Weber served on the ACAAI and American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (AAAAI) Task Force on Practice Guidelines and the Certification-Recertification Board Review Committee. He chaired the AAAAI Aerobiology Committee and the National Allergy Bureau Counters Committee. He is a member of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research (CBER) Allergenic Products Advisory Committee.

Dr. Michael Foggs is chief of allergy & immunology, Advocate Medical Group of Advocate Health Care in Chicago, and chief science officer for Enviro-Room Technologies, LLC, Glen Ellyn, Ill.

This past year he served as ACAAI vice president and chaired the Symposia Committee. He served two terms as ACAAI treasurer, as Foundation Board treasurer, and on the Board of Regents. He chairs the Acorn Committee and Research Funding Review Committee, and is a member of several committees including the Annual Program, Executive and Public Relations Committees. He is on the Editorial Board of Annals of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology, ACAAI’s scientific journal. He represents ACAAI on the Board of Directors of the Joint Council of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (JCAAI) and the American Board of Medical Specialties Workgroup on Asthma. He was honored with the Distinguished Fellow Award, the Stanislaus Jaros Lectureship and the Bela Schick Lectureship.

Dr. Foggs is a member of the FDA Pulmonary-Allergy Drugs Advisory Committee (PADAC) and received its Distinguished Service Award. He serves on the Consensus Panel on Asthma in the African American Community of the National Medical Association, and serves on the Board of Directors of InterAsma Global Asthma Association. Formerly, Dr. Foggs served on the Expert Panel 3 of the NHLBI National Asthma Education Prevention Program; on the National Institutes of Health Asthma Outcomes Workshop Quality of Life Committee; and on the World Allergy Organization’s Asthma Special Committee.
