Newswise — E. Steve Roach, MD, Chief of Neurology and Vice-Chair of the Department of Pediatrics at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, has been appointed Editor-in-Chief of the prestigious Pediatric Neurology journal, effective January 2013.
Pediatric Neurology publishes peer-reviewed clinical and research articles focusing on all aspects of the diagnosis, management and treatment of childhood neurologic disorders. The journal's internationally recognized editorial board ensures the most authoritative and extensive coverage in the field of pediatric neurology. Dr. Roach is also Professor of Pediatrics and Neurology at The Ohio State University College of Medicine. He received his medical degree at the University of Tennessee and completed his residencies at Wake Forest University in North Carolina. He came to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in 2006 with research interests including pediatric stroke and genetic neurological disorders.
Author of the first textbook on cerebrovascular disorders in children, Dr. Roach has written or co-authored eight other books in addition to more than 200 articles and book chapters on stroke and genetic disorders. He was awarded the 2002 Manuel Gomez Award by the Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance for his work to improve understanding of tuberous sclerosis, a genetic neurological disorder. Dr. Roach was the lead author for the American Heart/Stroke Association’s scientific statement on the diagnosis and treatment of pediatric stroke in 2008. He is currently president of the Child Neurology Society, the preeminent professional association of pediatric neurologists in the United States, Canada, and worldwide.
The Neurosciences Center at Nationwide Children's Hospital was ranked among the top ten pediatric neuroscience programs in the United States in the 2012 US News & World Report survey. The program includes leading clinicians and researchers in neurology and neuromuscular disease, neurosurgery, neurodiagnostics, physical medicine and rehabilitation, and sleep medicine. Key services include a level-four epilepsy center, pediatric stroke and vascular anomalies clinic, neuromuscular disease clinic, and the nation’s first pediatric intracranial hypertension clinic.
