Newswise — New Brunswick, N.J.—Fred A. Kobylarz, MD, MPH, a board-certified geriatrician and family medicine practitioner with Robert Wood Johnson Medical Group, has been named to the New Jersey Alzheimer’s Disease Study Commission.

Dr. Kobylarz, who also is associate professor of family medicine and community health at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and program co-director of the medical school’s geriatric fellowship program, was one of nine individuals statewide appointed to the commission on June 21 by Governor Chris Christie.

The commission is designed to study the impact and incidence of Alzheimer’s disease statewide, raise awareness of the needs of individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and their families, and recommend improvements, expansions, or other changes to existing services, programs, facilities, and state agencies focused on this disease.

Specializing in geriatrics and dementia, Dr. Kobylarz is currently a member of the board of directors of the Alzheimer’s Association’s Greater New Jersey Chapter.

After receiving his medical degree from the Universidad del Noreste (Northeastern University), Tamaulipas, Mexico, Dr. Kobylarz completed residency training in family medicine at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center, Paterson, N.J., and fellowship training in geriatrics at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

He has been published in numerous peer-reviewed journals on a variety of topics, including cross-cultural care, geriatric assessment, and health literacy.
