Newswise — Experts are available to discuss the re-entry of NASA’s Upper Atmosphere Research Satellite (UARS).

The decommissioned Upper Atmosphere Research Satellite (UARS) fell back to Earth between 11:23 p.m. EDT Friday, Sept. 23 and 1:09 a.m. Sept. 24.

The precise re-entry time and location of debris impacts have not been determined.

The UARS saga spotlights the importance of space situational awareness and highlights a special case of the debris problem: derelict satellites and the need for spacecraft to be de-orbited or moved to graveyard orbits.

Secure World Foundation (SWF) experts on orbital debris, space situational awareness, space traffic management, space sustainability, and related topics are on-call.
