Newswise — SEATTLE – Apr. 3, 2012 – Today, Seattle Children’s named Lisa Brandenburg hospital president. Effective immediately, Brandenburg will leave her five year role as hospital chief administrative officer (CAO) to take on the new leadership position, where she will focus on helping the hospital meet the goals set forth in Children’s 2012-2016 Strategic Plan.

Brandenburg has 21 years experience leading complex service organizations, including the University of Washington Medical Center. As CAO of Children’s, she has been deeply involved in all aspects of the hospital including patient care, physician practice management, the Building Hope expansion, transportation initiatives, human resources, and supply chain management. During each year of her tenure, Children’s has been recognized as one of the top children’s hospitals in the country by U.S. News & World Report – most recently ranked number 7 in 2011.

“Lisa has been wholeheartedly dedicated to improving the healthcare experience for Children’s patients and their families since joining the organization in 2007,” said Thomas N. Hansen, MD, CEO at Seattle Children's. “She has helped Children’s identify and overcome challenges, and improve patient care – at the same time inspiring others in the organization to do the same. The Board of Trustees and I are confident her leadership and laser focus on helping the hospital meet its mission to prevent, treat and eliminate pediatric disease, will provide Children’s with endless opportunities to shape the future of pediatric healthcare.”

“Children’s has a guiding star in our mission to take care of every child that needs us,” said Brandenburg. “We have a clear roadmap for moving us toward our vision for Seattle Children’s Hospital and I am delighted to lead us into that future. I am eager to work alongside our organization’s leaders and staff to accomplish our goals, and am honored to take on this role.”

Brandenburg replaces former hospital president and COO Pat Hagan who after more than 15 years of service resigned from his position last January to serve as a Continuous Performance Improvement (CPI) consultant, helping other organizations realize the power of CPI philosophy and its tools. In addition to CAO, Brandenburg has been serving as interim president since Hagan’s departure. Brandenburg’s CAO duties will now be distributed to other leaders across the organization so she can focus on her new responsibilities.

Brandenburg will report to Dr. Hansen and will become one of three current Children’s presidents joining: James Hendricks, PhD, president of Seattle Children’s Research Institute; and Douglas Picha, president of Seattle Children’s Hospital Foundation.
