Newswise — Washington, DC—During a virtual press conference on January 15, the Endocrine Society will share recommendations from its upcoming Clinical Practice Guideline on the use of prescription drugs to manage obesity.

Reporters who attend the webinar will receive an exclusive sneak peek at the Guideline before its public release. The Guideline, entitled “Pharmacological Management of Obesity: An Endocrine Society Clinical Practice Guideline,” will appear in the February 2015 print issue of the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism (JCEM), a publication of the Endocrine Society.

Developed by Endocrine Society obesity experts, the guideline provides recommendations on when and how to use prescription drugs to promote weight loss. The guideline also addresses the effect prescription medications for other conditions can have on weight.

During the webinar, reporters will have an opportunity to pose questions to obesity expert Caroline M. Apovian, MD, of Boston University School of Medicine and Boston Medical Center. She chaired the task force that authored the guideline.

Date: Thursday, January 15, 2015 12:45 – 1:15 p.m. (ET)

The Guideline will be published online the afternoon of January 15.

Media are invited to attend this event at no cost. Space is limited.
