Newswise — October 16, 2011- Warrendale, PA (USA) - The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society (TMS) and Springer officially announced the launch of a new Open Access journal, "Integrating Materials and Manufacturing Innovation" or "IMMI", this week at the Materials Science & Technology 2011 Conference & Exhibition (MS&T’11) in Columbus, Ohio, The journal will begin publishing in early 2012. Under the Open Access model, articles published in "IMMI" will be available to the public at no charge, and authors will own the copyright on their articles.

Of interest to metallurgists and engineers in academia and industry, "IMMI" will combine the peer review rigor of scholarly publications with enhanced digital content. Authors will be encouraged to post video, data, models/codes, links to databases, and commentary. Publishing one volume per year, "IMMI" will have a rapid review process, and articles will be published on a continuous basis upon acceptance. Thus, the journal’s capabilities extend beyond the traditional archival journal approach and the normal processing time associated with conventional publications. Additional details are available at IMMI.tms.org.

2011 TMS President Garry Warren stated, “With a sea-change underway in science and engineering with regard to how manufacturers can control the so-called ‘DNA’ of their products through computational materials science and engineering, TMS is excited to collaborate with Springer to publish "Integrating Materials and Manufacturing Innovation." Like the interdisciplinary field represented, this publication will be more than a journal - it will be a versatile and accelerated approach to information exchange via an integrated and collaborative environment.”

Alexander Greene of Springer said, “Springer is especially proud to have TMS as its valued partner in this new venture, which will expand the boundaries of the traditional Open Access model.” About TMS The mission of TMS is to promote the global science and engineering professions concerned with minerals, metals, and materials. TMS is a member-driven professional society consisting largely of scientists and engineers working in industry, academia and government, as well as students studying in the materials field. Included among its nearly 10,000 professional and student members are metallurgical and materials engineers, scientists, researchers, educators, and administrators from more than 70 countries on six continents.
