Newswise — SAVANNAH (21-Feb-11) - Engineers from around the State of Georgia will gather in Savannah for the annual E-Week Technical Training Conference February 24. Engineering experts will provide technical training within the areas of civil, structural, geotechnical, water resource-based, environmental, electrical and mechanical engineering. The conference, held at the Armstrong Center, is sponsored by Georgia Tech Savannah, American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC), Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME)
Attendees will gain industry insight related to engineering, entrepreneurship and leadership. The conference will be comprised of informative presentations including "The Competitive Edge for Winning Proposals", "Understanding Communications Design in the Military Environment", "The Governor's Water Contingency Task Force" and "This Year's Renewable Energy Developments," among many others. Col. Jeffrey Hall, Savannah District Commander of the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), will open the conference and it will be closed out by Van Woods, the Seattle CADD/BIM manager and northwest regional coordinator for the USACE. In addition to the USACE, the speakers will represent a wide array of engineering companies including AECOM, TCOM Design Inc., Gulfstream, Lowe Engineers, Merrick & Company, Jacobs, URS Corp., Southern Energy Management and McCarthy Building Companies, Inc.
One eminent engineer involved in civil, military or academic practices will be given the Connolly Award, named in honor of James B. Connolly. Connolly was a former Savannah District - US Army Corps of Engineer's employee, veteran of the Spanish-American War, Olympic Gold Medalist in 1896 and distinguished author. The award winner, civilian or uniformed service engineer, will have demonstrated notable contributions to the field of engineering while bringing recognition to the City of Savannah.
"Our Savannah E-Week Conference will inform the Savannah engineering community about the latest innovation and trends within the field while enriching our Savannah-based engineering students on topics outside the realm of their classroom curriculum," says Joel Burke, a key coordinator for the event. "Our speakers are specialized professionals, experts in their field that come to Savannah with some very interesting topics.
