The Muslim community is on alert as religious hate is a suspected motive for this week’s murders of three Muslim college students in North Carolina. In the age of social media and the 24-hour news cycle, Muslim minorities in the West are more vulnerable than ever to hate crimes, according to Texas A&M University law professor Sahar Aziz, an expert in civil rights, anti-Muslim bias and hate crimes. Professor Aziz is available to offer her analysis regarding the recent killings in relation to the rise of violence in the Middle East perpetrated by terrorist groups like ISIS, the terrorist attacks in Paris, and the rise of anti-Muslim rhetoric in public discourse. Her article "From the Oppressed to the Terrorist: Muslim American Women Caught in the Crosshairs of Intersectionality" addresses the unique challenges faced by Muslim women in the post-9/11 era.
