Newswise — Two Texas A&M University experts in elections and the presidency are available for comment on Hillary Clinton making history as the first woman to clench the presidential nomination of a major political party.

Dr. Sarah Fulton, an associate professor of political science, is an expert on political campaigns and elections with emphasis on women in politics. Her research looks at the impact of sex on political behavior and election outcomes.

"To reach the highest office, Clinton will have to solidify the Democratic base. She will also have to convince independent voters to support her, but my research suggests that she will face an uphill battle with independents, particularly male independents," Fulton said.
