New Faculty Provides Expertise in Digestive Diseases, Advanced Endoscopic Techniques and the Treatment of Inflammatory Bowel Disease

Newswise — NYU Langone Medical Center announced today the appointment of three new faculty to the medical center’s Division of Gastroenterology. Sophie M. Balzora, MD, Lea Ann Chen, MD and Seth A. Gross, MD bring advanced expertise across a variety of gastrointestinal diseases, conditions and therapies.

The new faculty members are:

Sophie M. Balzora, MD is an attending gastroenterologist at NYU Langone Medical Center and her primary clinical focus is on digestive diseases and conditions. She received her medical degree from The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences in Washington, DC and completed her residency in Internal Medicine at Columbia University Medical Center.

Lea Ann Chen, MD specializes in treating inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis and has published several papers on topics such as inflammatory bowel disease, colon cancer screening and gastrointestinal bacteria. Dr. Chen received her medical degree from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri. She completed her internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, and her fellowship in gastroenterology at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore.

Seth A. Gross, MD specialties include the diagnosis and treatment of small bowel disease and the prevention, detection, staging and treatment of gastrointestinal malignancies, such as esophageal cancer, colorectal cancer and pancreatic cancer. He has published numerous manuscripts and abstracts on advanced endoscopic techniques. Dr. Gross received his medical degree from the Sackler School of Medicine-NY State American Program. He completed his internship and residency at North Shore University Hospital and his gastroenterology fellowship at Mayo Clinic.
