Newswise — Brick, NJ - In 2011, Ocean Medical Center Foundation launched the Growing Together Capital Campaign dedicated to rebuilding and expanding the hospital’s busy emergency department. The campaign officially concluded in December 2014, proudly surpassing fundraising goals and bringing in a total of $10.5 million. This marks the largest campaign in the medical center’s history.
The new Hirair and Anna Hovnanian Emergency Care Center has tripled Ocean Medical Center’s emergency services capacity and features express care, enhanced private bays, state of the art equipment, large family lounge areas, complimentary valet parking, natural lighting and a peaceful garden area. The stunning new facility provides a patient experience unlike any other in the region.
Edele Hovnanian, vice president and director of the Hirair and Anna Hovnanian Foundation, Inc., inspired giving through the campaign’s onset challenge gift of $5 million. “My father started his business in Brick. I was born in this community,” shares Edele. “We are so thankful to be able to give back and help change the face of emergency care at Ocean Medical Center.”
The grand opening was held on March 3, 2014, but fundraising efforts continued throughout the year. Close to $500,000 additional funds were received in the remaining months of the campaign. In its first year, the new emergency department has seen a 10% increase in patient volume.
“Support from the local community was a vital part of creating this environment of tranquility and comfort for people at their highest stress levels,” says Dean Q. Lin, FACHE, president of Ocean Medical Center. “We’ve already seen an increase in patients using the new Emergency Department and are truly grateful to all those donors who helped to make this amazing resource available to our community.”
“Contributing to this campaign was a huge opportunity to positively impact the community we share,” says Harriet Donnelly, foundation trustee and administrator of the Dorothy B. Hersh Foundation, which generously donated $1 million to the campaign in support of the Pediatric Care Center. “I feel honored to be a part of the remarkable transformation that touches so many of us each day.”
As the Growing Together Campaign comes to a close, Ocean Medical Center looks ahead for future growth opportunities. Throughout 2015 and beyond, the Foundation will continue to raise funds for important service lines such as oncology, with over $20 million to be invested in the latest cancer care technology, and greatly expanding the infusion and patient navigation services. Enhanced surgical capabilities and first-rate patient accommodations will also feature prominently in the coming years.
