Newswise — CHARLOTTESVILLE, Virginia — University of Virginia Darden School of Business MBA for Executives alumnus John Hibbs (EMBA `11) takes information technology (IT) and security very seriously.
Recently, the General Electric (GE) Capital chief information security officer was recognized for eliminating attackers invisible to computer anti-virus scans with a “GE Heroes of IT Award.” In his role, Hibbs has aggressively minimized risk and implemented “industry-leading security analytics” through programs he helped develop.
He credits his Darden education for the successes in his current position.
“Darden provided me the ability to lead at an enterprise level in the private sector and gain results,” said Hibbs, who transitioned from the military into a senior executive position.
“I was effectively able to gain the trust and confidence of my superiors and have the confidence to make hard, strategic decisions to robustly improve GE Capital's cyber security posture.”
“Heroes of IT” is an "award of the year" for either a team or an individual in prescribed focus areas, including:

GE selects the award recipients out of a target population of approximately 40,000 employees in IT.
Hibbs was the only GE Capital awardee out of approximately 5,000 Capital IT members.
