Geriatrician can address patient, caregiver challenges of Alzheimer’s disease

Dr. Zaldy Tan is a clinician, researcher and educator whose studies on brain aging and memory have been published in major medical journals and featured in such publications as The New York Times, Time, CNN and The Wall Street Journal. His clinical practices focus on evaluation of memory disorders and primary care. As Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month begins in November, he can address advanced dementia, diagnosis and treatment, the struggles that caregivers experience and other topics related to Alzheimer’s, the most common form of dementia.

Dr. Tan is the Philo Van Wagoner Endowed Chair in Geriatrics Education, an associate professor of medicine in the division of geriatrics at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and an assistant dean for curricular affairs at the Geffen School. He is the director and principal investigator for the UCLA Geriatric Workforce Enhancement Program , the TimeOut Intergenerational Program and the Improving Caregiving for Dementia (I-CareD) Project. He is also the medical director of the UCLA Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care Program.

Safety and injuries when days grow shorter, cooler

Dr. Daniel Vigil can talk about how changes in the weather and shorter daytime hours can impact on such things as injuries and illness and bike safety at dusk or dawn. Vigil holds faculty appointments in the departments of Family Medicine and Orthopaedic Surgery at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, and has also completed the Sports Medicine Fellowship training at UCLA. Vigil's sports medicine practice at includes patients of all ages for the evaluation of sports-related injuries and medical problems.

Vigil is a physician member of the UCLA Department of Intercollegiate Athletics where he serves as team physician for UCLA Bruins' women’s soccer and softball programs. He also practices family medicine, providing care for patients with a wide variety of medical problems, as well as supervising medical students. He serves as a medical consultant for USA Track and Field, and is a member of the USA Track and Field physician referral network.

Prostate cancer for men’s health awareness month

Dr. Christopher Saigal is a professor and vice chair of urology at UCLA’s David Geffen School of Medicine. He also works closely with the West Los Angeles Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Saigal has had a longstanding clinical interest in urologic cancers and the surgical treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia. His research is focused on patient-centered decision support and quality of care for urologic conditions. In honor of men’s health awareness month in November, Saigal can discuss the importance of prostate cancer screenings and new and improved treatment options for men.
