Newswise — UofL economics professor Steve Gohmann is available for comment on the recent sale of GE Appliances to AB Electrolux for $3.3 billion. Industry experts expect the move, which put GE Appliances, Electrolux and Frigidaire all under the same ownership, to be worth around $23 billion in sales.

“It’s hard to say whether they will be layoffs but generally when firms merge they get rid of redundant employees,” Gohmann said. GE Appliance Park in Louisville added more than 2,000 jobs in 2013, with an combined employment workforce of 6,000.

As the BB&T Distinguished Professor in Free Enterprise, Gohmann is developing and teaching the economics course, The Moral Foundations of Capitalism, and participating in community outreach efforts to discuss these concepts with diverse audiences. An award-winning instructor and researcher, Gohmann has been a member of the economics faculty since 1988.

Gohmann can be reached by email at [email protected] or by phone at 502-852-4844.
