Newswise — Dean Sittig, Ph.D., professor at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) School of Biomedical Informatics, received a Book of the Year Award from The Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS).

Sittig was recognized for co-authoring a book titled “Improving Outcomes with Clinical Decision Support: An Implementer's Guide, Second Edition.”

The award acknowledges books that offer practical guidance and/or strategic insight for healthcare information and management systems professionals.

“Dr. Sittig is a leading researcher, a prolific writer and an enthusiastic presenter in biomedical informatics,” said Jiajie Zhang, Ph.D., interim dean and the Dr. Doris L. Ross Professor at the UTHealth School of Biomedical Informatics.

Sittig is a member of the UTHealth-Memorial Hermann Center for Healthcare Quality and Safety. His research interests center on the design, development, implementation and evaluation of all aspects of clinical information systems.

The HIMSS Awards Program recognizes lifetime achievement, scholarship programs, activities or publications with honors going to individuals, groups and organizations for significant contributions to the Society, their organizations or to the health IT profession. HIMSS will honor all 2012 award and scholarship winners at the HIMSS13 Awards Banquet on March 5, 2013 in New Orleans.
