The George Washington University has experts available to discuss the ongoing, and increasingly volatile, demonstrations against Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro’s government:
Roberto Izurieta, director of Latin American Projects for the Graduate School of Political Management, is an expert on Latin American politics. He previously served as the communications director for the president of Ecuador. Additionally, Professor Izurieta has worked on several political campaigns in Latin America and Spain.
Jill F. Kasle, associate professor of public policy and public administration, is an expert on law and telecommunications policy. She has taught advanced seminars in international standards and communications policy at the University of Simon Bolivar, Caracas and previously analyzed the suitability of rules, procedures and practices governing private sector participation in the telecommunications industry in Venezuela for the Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications.
Cynthia McClintock, professor of political science and international affairs, is an expert on Latin American politics and U.S. policy towards Latin America. In 2006-07, Professor McClintock was a fellow at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars and based on her research during that time, she is writing a book about presidential elections in Latin America.
