If a spring break travel deal looks too good to be true it probably is, says UAB marketing expert Doug Ayers, Ph.D. Horror stories emerge each year from college students stranded in airports without flights home or stuck on tropical islands without accommodations. To minimize the risk of being a scam victim, Ayers advises using a reputable travel agency and paying with a credit card. If you do take advantage of a promotional offer, do your homework by researching the company through the Better Business Bureau. "Ask a lot of questions, check the fine print and get the phone number, especially if it's an Internet company, to make sure the company really exists."
