Newswise — WHAT: Press briefing on the 5th Asian American Cancer Control Academy, a two-day Sacramento conference bringing together cancer-control authorities from throughout the United States, including the nation’s No. 1 cancer doctor. Asian American cancer incidence and mortality trends, smoking rates and diet and exercise patterns will be reported, with an emphasis on the Hmong. The conference is a meeting of the Asian American Network for Cancer Awareness, Research and Training, headquartered at UC Davis. More information: http://www.aancart.org. WHO: Andrew von Eschenbach, director of the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, Md., will outline the nation’s plan for eliminating ethnic disparities in cancer as part of an ambitious initiative to eliminate suffering and death due to cancer by 2015. He will deliver a keynote at the start of the conference. Researchers will be on hand to discuss their findings. Korean and Hmong cancer patients will be available to talk about their personal experiences. Hmong, Korean, Vietnamese, Mandarin and Cantonese-speaking spokespersons will be available for comment to Asian-language media.
