Christmas on a Budget

Newswise — Christmas shopping is kicking into high gear, but what if you're a little short on cash this year? “If you haven’t had a great year financially, consider telling the people on your Christmas list – not so they’ll give you money, but so they won’t expect as big a gift, or one at all,” says UAB finance professor Lance Nail, Ph.D. Shrinking the list is a valid response to lack of funds. “Talk with those you exchange gifts with and suggest not exchanging gifts or agreeing to much lower dollar limits on gifts. By doing this, you’re probably doing them a big favor as well.” Keeping rein on your credit card usage also can help keep holiday finances in check.
