Sunscreen ingredient suppliers claim that the FDA is dragging its feet on approving new ingredients for sunscreens and delaying implementation of a revised rating system for measuring sun protection.

Newswise — Sunscreen ingredient suppliers claim that the Food and Drug Administration is dragging its feet on approving new ingredients for sunscreens and delaying implementation of a revised rating system for measuring sun protection that could help consumers get a better idea of how effective a sunscreen is at protecting against skin cancer and wrinkles, according to an article in the April 11 issue of Chemical and Engineering News. C&EN is the weekly news magazine of the American Chemical Society, the world’s largest scientific society.

The newsmagazine’s report says consumers need more information to determine if the sunscreens they use now really protect against these conditions. For the full news story, visit http://pubs.acs.org/cen/coverstory/83/8315sunscreens.html.
