The Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry has made the entire 26-year history of its flagship journal, Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry, available online as a fully indexed and searchable archive of scientific knowledge.

Newswise — The Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry has made the entire history of its flagship journal, Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry, available online as a fully indexed and searchable archive of scientific knowledge. The online collection spans more than 270 issues spread over 26 years and grows every month.

Many members report ongoing use of and reference to the older volumes of ET&C, yet they find keeping up with the collection to be quite cumbersome. Joe Gorsuch, charter SETAC member and coordinating editor of SETAC books, echoes this feeling: “In the past 25 years, a great number of environmental chemistry, ecotoxicology and ecological risk assessment papers have been published in ET&C. Having all of the data rich papers available to our membership in an online searchable format should prove useful and efficient when researching a topic area.”

“We are very excited to offer all the issues of ET&C as a special service to our members and institutional subscribers,” said Allen Burton, President of SETAC World Council. “Too often these days, literature searches are restricted to online issues, failing to recognize a substantial body of the scientific literature. This will directly benefit the sciences and we are indebted to the support of the Copper Development Association for making this a reality.”

Upon hearing the online searchable archive was available, Herb Ward, editor-in-chief of ET&C, said, “Thanks to this long-awaited feature, SETAC science will now be able to reach all segments of society worldwide to help improve environmental quality and promote the transition to environmental sustainability.”

Online access to full-text articles from both of the Society’s journals is available at http://www.setacjournals.org as an added benefit to its membership. Abstracts from the past 26 years are available to the general public on the same Web site.

SETAC is a not-for-profit, worldwide professional society founded in 1979 consisting of individuals and institutions from an array of scientific fields including environmental toxicology and chemistry, biology, ecology, earth sciences, atmospheric sciences, health sciences and environmental engineering.
