Newswise — Highlighting new technology in thermal spray for the aerospace industry, the ASM Thermal Spray Society will hold its Aerospace Coatings Symposium this Oct. 15-16 in Hartford, Conn.

This symposium will bring together professional technical, commercial and academic decision makers of surface engineering and thermal spray solutions throughout the aerospace coatings supply chain, such as: materials and equipment suppliers, coating applicators, system integrators, engine manufacturers, airlines, and service providers.

Invited presentations will be given by members of the aerospace supply chain, including the airlines, engine manufacturers, applicators of thermal spray coatings, materials and equipment suppliers, and research organizations.

Symposium organizers Richard Bajan of BASF Catalysts, LLC and Mitchell Dorfman of Sulzer Metco (US) Inc. have developed two tracks to address specific interests:

Focus on Scientists and Engineers:

"¢ New Technology Trends "¢ Existing and Future Coating Application Requirements "¢ Technical Discussion on Case Studies and Applications (wear, oxidation, hot corrosion, heat barriers, general wear, and part restoration)

Focus on Applicators, Technicians, Quality, EH&S Personnel, and Process Engineers :

"¢ Environmental Health "¢ Safety Issues "¢ Testing and Characterization "¢ Quality and Process Improvements "¢ Pre/Post Processing "¢ Metallography

On Oct. 13-14, TSS will sponsor a two-day short course on Materials and Processes for High Temperature Gas Turbine Components. Dr. Donald Boone, President of BWD Turbines, Ltd. will cover thermal spray and other highly important surface modification processes that are critical to the aerospace industry.
