Newswise — The Johns Hopkins Hospital has again received the 2010 American Alliance of Healthcare Providers’ (AAHCP) American Hospital of Choice Award. Johns Hopkins has been selected for this award seven times since the award’s inception in 2002.

The award is designed to find America's most customer-friendly hospitals based either on an extensive application process, or by a review of a facility's public communication and staff interaction with customers. The application process requires a review of six principal areas of consideration, including standards of conduct, performance management and improvement, staff development and training, systems of communication, good citizenship, and educational and promotional material available to consumers.

Each year AAHCP evaluates approximately 400 hospitals for consideration of the award. Johns Hopkins is one of 100 hospitals that are recognized each year as a Hospital of Choice. Other 2010 winners in the region include Fairfax Inova Hospital (Fairfax, Va.), Georgetown University Hospital (Washington, D.C.), Howard University Hospital (Washington, D.C.), and Virginia Hospital Center (Arlington, Va.).
