Who: The Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation, Minneapolis Heart Institute at Abbott Northwestern Hospital, Mayo Clinic, and University of Minnesota are convening The Women and Heart Disease Summit in Minneapolis.

Minnesota First Lady Mary Pawlenty is the honorary chair person; and co-chair people are Elizabeth Zane Grey, M.D., Sharonne Hayes, M.D., and Ruth Lindquist, Ph.D. They will be joined by a faculty of physicians, scientists, and experts in healthcare delivery.

Why: The summit will examine why women suffer untimely deaths due to heart disease, address sex-based disparities in treatment, and explore how differences in women’s symptoms, risk factors, and the biology and psychology of heart disease affect their outcomes. The summit will establish an action plan for addressing these vital issues in Minnesota and nationwide.

When: Thursday, April 29, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday, April 30, 8 a.m. to noon
