Newswise — Challenging the traditional view that entrepreneurship is exclusively a private-sector concern, Governpreneurship presents a compelling argument for increased focus on entrepreneurship in public sector organizations including case studies from around the globe. Co-authored by Thunderbird School of Global Management Professor Robert Hisrich, Ph.D. and scheduled for release on October 17, 2012, it is the only book to date to focus specifically on government entrepreneurship.

The book includes a foreword by Former U.S. President Bill Clinton. From the Foreword: “After more than 20 years in public office and ten years traveling the world for my Foundation, I’ve concluded that the best outcomes occur when a strong, effective private sector works together with an innovative, entrepreneurial government to promote the economy. I know that as you read this book, you’ll gain invaluable insights about the type of government that will succeed in the 21st century.” – William Jefferson Clinton, Former U.S. President

Thunderbird Professor Robert Hisrich, Ph.D. was not looking for entrepreneurship when he traveled to Saudi Arabia in January 2009 and met with government official Amr Al-Dabbagh, he was following up on a Thunderbird business development trip.

“To my surprise, I soon realized my host was a genuine government entrepreneur who had left a family business to lead the Saudi Arabian General Investment Authority,” said Hisrich. “Our conversation stretched from 15 minutes to nearly 2 hours, and I left with a new perspective on the potential of government to create or foster entrepreneurial activity.”

Hisrich and Al-Dabbagh co-authored this new book, and offer advice on all aspects on government entrepreneurship. Along with expert advice, the book includes four case studies that explore successful government entrepreneurial undertakings in Ireland, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, and Switzerland.
