Washington, D.C. December 10, 2012: The videogame industry is changing rapidly. It is seen less as a maker of visually intense immersive action games and more of a learning tool creator. The explosion of the “apps” industry in recent years is a result of this change. The change in the type of videogame has also meant a significant change for users.

American University’s Dean of the School of Communication is available to comment on the monumental transformation affecting the videogame industry, and what its impact will be on education, teaching, and society as a whole.

WHO: Dean Jeff Rutenbeck: Jeff Rutenbeck is the new dean for the School of Communication at American University. His expertise includes game design, game art and animation, communication, public relations, graphic design and digital media, digital filmmaking, broadcast and streaming media, creative media, professional writing, and emergent media (MFA). He has long explored the dynamic of social interaction of the digital revolution and society. Prior to joining AU in August 2012, Rutenbeck was the dean of the Division of Communication and Creative Media at Champlain College.
