As a potentially record-breaking snowstorm bears down on New York, Boston and other parts of the Northeast, many residents are bracing for disastrous travel conditions, power outages and more. Dr. Darren Parnell, associate professor of geography and geosciences at Salisbury University, is available to speak with reporters about what causes these types of massive blizzards and how they may be forecasted.

At SU, Parnell teaches courses in severe and hazardous weather, weather analysis and forecasting, and applied climatology. His research interests also include climatic extremes and climate impacts on agriculture. For more information on Parnell, visit his faculty Web site at http://faculty.salisbury.edu/~dbparnell.

To schedule an interview (best availability: 1-2 or 3-4 p.m. Friday, February 8), call the SU Public Relations Office at 410-543-6030 or e-mail jfrhodes@salisbury.edu.
